Morning Ride With Carlos Sastre

Video: Some of us here at Endure It! asked Carlos at dinner if he wanted to get in a morning ride before breakfast. The AM ride wasn't exactly on the Brainbike 2009 schedule, but Carlos is a super nice guy, he was all about it!

Every year Cervelo hosts a Brainbike event to which they invite their dealers to attend. This is a conference where the guys behind the scenes at cervelo further educate their dealers in such areas as aerodynamics, fit, comfort, engineering, ect. Last year Brainbike was held at the low speed wind tunnel in San Diego, CA. For 2009 the locale was not quite as exotic, or warm for that matter. Drew and I made the 4 mile trek (our trek had nothing to do with Astana or doping) to the Lisle Hilton for two days of Cervelo focus.

They had quite the impressive staff on hand including Phil White (founder), team mechanics, inside and outside sales reps, engineers, and a couple of guys you may have heard of Jean Paul van Poppel (9 time Tour de France stage winner, current TestTeam director), up and comer Serge Pauwels (2007 Tour Down Under KOM winner), and Carlos Sastre, whose accolades are too long to list. You may know him as the 2008 Tour de France winner.

This was no ordinary conference, and they don't just make ordinary bikes. Cervelo is the most innovate bike company out there. They are the largest time-trial machine manufacturer in the world. Cervelo was bike supplier for Team CSC since 2003. In 2009 Cervelo will have it's own pro tour team, Cervelo TestTeam.

Within the last year alone Cervelo riders have won the overall classification at the Tour de France (Carlos Sastre in video above), 10 medals at the Bejing Olympics (3 gold), the Ironman World Championship, won best pro tour team title, and won several Ironman and Ironman 70.3 victories. Want one? The 2009 models are rolling (not literally) into Endure It! as you read.

In case you were wondering Cervelo originates from the Italian word for brain (cervello) and the French word for bike (velo). Hence: brainbike
